MTN - separation of Scancom Plc's Mobile Money
MTN announced the completion of the structural separation of MTN Ghana's mobile money business, in compliance with Ghana's Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019. The mobile money operations have been merged into a newly incorporated company, MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), effective 31 March 2026. This merger involved no share issuance and MTN Ghana’s shareholding and telecommunications business remain unchanged. MMFL is owned by MTN Dutch Holdings B.V. and The MTN Ghana Fintech Trust, benefiting non-MTN Group shareholders. This move aligns with MTN’s strategic goal to expand its fintech platform and accelerate value creation.

MTN - launch of new sub-brand
Business Day has reported that MTN recently launched a new sub-brand named Pi which is a business move that will increase the competitive advantage of MTN against non-traditional competitors. Pi is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) owned by MTN however, unlike other local MVNOs, Pi is planning to offer different fixed internet packages exclusively for home use while offering data at low prices as a method to draw in customers.
