    Sasol to open R1bn plant in Secunda
    Sasol is to proceed with the construction of a R1bn detergent alcohol plant in Secunda. It is expected to be a major export earner. The plant is expected to be commissioned in March 2002 and will have an annual capacity of 120 000 tons. Most of the production will be exported to the US, Europe and Asia.

    Sasol to raise R2bn through bond issue
    Sasol may enter the corporate bond market to raise R2bn. The bond is expected to be priced between 120 and 150 basis points against similar maturity government bonds after Duff & Phelps awarded Sasol an AA rating in long-term domestic currency debt and the highest possible short-term rating of D1+.

    Sasol and Enron sign pipeline agreement
    Sasol and Enron have signed a co-operation agreement regarding their gas and pipeline rights in Mozambique. This will result in the construction of a single pipeline to SA. Sasol will exploit the Temane Field and Sofala and M-10 blocks in Mozambique and transport the gas to SA, whereas Enron will develop the Pande Gas Field and transport the gas to Maputo to be used at the Maputo Iron & Steel Project. The agreement requires the go-ahead from the Mozambique government and is subject to certain technical reviews. Sasol will own the rights to the pipeline and will be responsible for its operation, and Enron will buy gas from Sasol.

    Sasol increases stake in Qatar venture
    Sasol has become an equal partner with Qatar General Petroleum Corp in a new $780m gas to liquids venture in Qatar. The capacity of the project is expected to be 30 000 barrels of diesel and Naptha per day. Sasol has acquired 15% of the project from Phillips Petroleum to increase its stake to 49%, with QGPC holding 51%.

    Sasol may list on NYSE
    Sasol may look to a secondary listing on the New York Stock Exchange in an effort to raise funds for a foreign acquisition. Sasol is currently listed on the Nasdaq in the form of ADR's.
