Following the recent declaration in South Africa of a public holiday on 1 March 
2006, in connection with local government elections, the JSE Limited (`JSE") has
requested BHP Billiton amend the dividend dates applying to BHP Billiton Plc    
shares traded on the JSE as follows: (* Amended dates are shown in bold.  All   
other dates remain unchanged)

BHP Billiton Plc shareholders registered on the South African section of the    
register will not be able to dematerialise or rematerialise their shareholdings,
and transfers between the UK register and the South African register will not be
permitted, between the dates of 24 February 2006 * (from 27 February 2006) and 3
March 2006.                                                                     
For the avoidance of doubt, in respect of the announcement made by BHP Billiton 
on 27 January 2006 regarding foreign currency dividend payments, shareholders on
the South African section of the BHP Billiton Plc register may only receive     
their dividend in rand.
