Gemfields - updated G-factor figures
Gemfields updated its 'G-Factor for Natural Resources' figures for its Kagem emerald mine in Zambia and Montepuez Ruby Mining in Mozambique, covering the period from 2016 to 2025. The 10-year G-Factor stands at 17% for Kagem and 26% for Montepuez, indicating the proportion of natural resource revenue paid to host governments. In 2025, Montepuez paid 23% of its revenue to Mozambique, despite lower output and market disruptions. Kagem's G-Factor was only 6% in 2025 due to operational halts and export taxes but is expected to return to its long-term average of around 18%. The G-Factor provides transparency on resource contributions to host countries and is calculated as the sum of mineral royalties, taxes, dividends, and export levies divided by total revenue.
