BHP Billiton - directors interests
Billiton Employee Share Ownership Trust sold 3 112 ordinary shares at GBP3.28 per share and 3 011 ordinary shares at GBP3.26 per share on the 25 Nov 02, they also transferred 14 241 shares and 11 550 shares on the 26 Nov 02. These transactions were made on behalf of non-relevant beneficiaries of the Company's Restricted Share Scheme and Co-Investment plan and as a result Mr B P Gilbertson and Mr C W Goodyear, both directors of BHP Billiton, have an interest in the remaining 381 300 shares held as potential beneficiaries of the trust.

Billiton makes hydrocarbon discovery in Mexico
Billiton announced that it has made a hydrocarbon discovery with an exploration well on its Shenzi prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The well has reached a measured depth of 26 607 feet and has encountered a gross hydrocarbon column of 465 feet with 140 feet of net pay. The water depth is 4400 feet. The Shenzi discovery is located 125 miles from the Louisiana coast in Green Canyon Block 654. This lies in the Western Atwater Foldbelt area on the geologic trend where the company has made the previously announced oil and gas discoveries at Mad Dog, Atlantis, and Neptune. The significance of the well will be assessed following further evaluation of drilling and resource data. Appraisal drilling will be necessary to determine the size of the find.

Billiton has announced that it has become the first company in the world to actively trade both its own and third party copper concentrates and refined metals. The group is considering extending this initiative into other metals it produces.

Billiton evaluating oil operation off SA coast
Billiton is in the process of making a decision on whether to go ahead with deep-water drilling of the west coast of South Africa. If the project goes ahead it could lead the country being independent in oil supply. Billiton has the license to explore and drill in a 29 000 square kilometre area in the Orange Basin. The results of the survey, which has been carried out, are currently being interpreted. The company will make future plans based on these results.

Metal prices affect Billiton short-term outlook
Billiton's chairman, Don Argus, has told shareholders that the company's short-term outlook will remain difficult with below average growth, mainly due to the decrease in world-wide metal prices.
