Nature of Business
Sallies was incorporated in 1903 as the South African Land and Exploration Mining Company Ltd. and has been listed in the mining sector of what is now the JSE Securities Exchange since 1904. Following its acquisition of Fluorspar Witkop Mine in the North West Province of South Africa in 1999 and Buffalo Fluorspar mine in Limpopo Province in 2006, Sallies' principal business has been the production and sale of acid grade fluorspar. The bulk of its output is exported to international customers. In addition, it produces metallurgical grade fluorspar, primarily for the local market. The company changed its name to Sallies Ltd. in 1999. Both operations are currently in care and maintenance.
