Sasol awards contract in Qatar project
Sasol has awarded a USD675m engineering and construction contract to Technip-Coflexip of Italy in its USD900m gas-to-liquid project in Qatar, where it is working in partnership with state-owned Qatar Petroleum. Sasol says the plant will be one of the world's most advanced gas-to-liquid plants.

Sasol talking to the Iranians
Sasol finance director Trevor Munday confirmed on 28 Jan 03 that the company was considering a number of locations where Sasol could develop its gas-to-liquid technology. He said that Sasol is considering various opportunities for gas-to-liquid projects in the Middle East and other parts of the world where there are natural gas reserves. However, other than projects already announced in Qatar and Nigeria, all other investigations are in an exploratory phase.

Sasol's industrial alcohol plant comes on stream
Sasol announced that its new R1bn industrial alcohol plant at Secunda had come on stream. Sasol CE, Pieter Cox said that he viewed the completion of the plant with great satisfaction as it added an annual capacity of 120 000 tons of alcohol for supply to international customers. "The project forms part of Sasol's overall corporate growth strategy to add further value to feed-streams that are available from its oil-from-coal process," said Cox. "It has enabled us to get into export markets and through that to establish many global relationships which consolidate our presence in international markets." The new alcohol will be marketed under the name Safol.

Sasol executive to head Sapia
Sasol announced on 23 Jan 03 that the head of Sasol Oil, Hannes Botha, will serve as Sapia chairman in 2003.
