Sasol denies venture setback
Sasol dismissed reports yesterday, 23 Jul 02, that its plans to develop a gas-to-liquids venture in Australia with US partner Chevron had suffered a setback. Pat Davie, the director in charge of Sasol's natural gas portfolio, said that he hoped to receive a decision from the Australian cabinet in the course of the 2002 calendar year. The outcome of the process was unknown but Sasol was fully committed to the project. Davies was reacting to a report from Australia which suggested that the company had sought, but was refused, billions of rands in assistance from the Australian authorities. Sasol emphasised that the reports relating to the Australian venture was inaccurate. A Sasol spokesman said that the initial investment in the Australian gas project would be about AUD4bn.
